A Sarnia officer who pleaded guilty to breach of trust over the summer has voluntarily stepped away from the police service.
In June of 2021, Ontario's police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), was contacted by the Sarnia Police Service in regards to criminal allegations involving a local officer.
Following an investigation by the SIU, Cst. Christopher Noordam was charged with sexual assault in connection with alleged incidents that dated back to March 2018.
Noordam, who has been suspended from duty since August 26, 2021, pleaded guilty in the Ontario Court of Justice on August 4, 2022. The charge of sexual assault was withdrawn.
The Sarnia Police Service said upon that criminal conviction being entered, disciplinary proceedings under the Police Service Act (PSA) were initiated, however as a result of Noordams' resignation, all Police Act proceedings are now concluded and no further comments will be provided.
