Ontario's police watchdog says an 82-year-old woman suffered serious injuries in a collision with an OPP cruiser in Corunna Wednesday.
First responders were called to the collision at St. Clair Parkway and St. Clair Boulevard over the noon hour.
In an email to Sarnia News Today, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Communications Coordinator Monica Hudon said preliminary information indicates that the officer was traveling westbound on St. Clair Boulevard. Upon turning southbound on St. Clair Parkway, the police vehicle collided with an 82-year-old woman -- she was later transported to hospital.
Police said the area was closed for a brief time while they investigated, and the scene was cleared.
Hudon said two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. Three witness officials and one subject official have been designated.
In a media release, the SIU said it's urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online.
The SIU invokes its mandate if a member(s) of Ontario’s police services, select special constables and peace officers is involved in an incident that causes serious injury, death, the discharge of a firearm at a person or an allegation of sexual assault.
