HUB International is distributing winter wear to those in need in downtown Sarnia Thursday.
Personal Insurance Account Assistant, and Social Committee Coordinator, Chassiti Westover said hundreds of items were collected during the month of November.
"We're at almost 450 items," said Westover. "Hats, mitts, coats, snow pants, boots, blankets."
She said each item has since had a message of encouragement attached to it.
"We've put a little tag that says, 'just keep going,' with some nice reminders on them and ribbon and we're going to hang them on the trees in front of Sarnia Library and along the sides of the Lawrence House."
Westover said this is the first year they've done a winter wear collection.
"We didn't have a goal in mind, but once the numbers started to grow and once our friends and family heard about it... they were like, 'oh, have some mitts we have a ton.' So, it definitely grew past my expectations for sure."
Large items will be taken to Rivercity Vineyard for distribution.
Westover said the Sarnia HUB office has been very focused on fundraising this year.
From January to June, $1,400 was raised and distributed to the Sarnia Sexual Assault Survivors Centre, The HUB at Rebound and Sarnia's suicide prevention organization.
The fundraising effort currently underway from July to December has already surpassed that total.
$1,500 has been raised so far and will be donated at the end of the year to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Diversity ED and the Sarnia and District Humane Society.
