Upright train derailment quickly cleared

No spills have been reported following a five-car train derailment in Sarnia's south end.

A CN derailment, at 431 Russell St. S., was reported early Thursday morning by the Aamjiwnaang Notification System.

Officials with the City of Sarnia clarified that the incident happened shortly after 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Manager of Emergency Management and Corporate Security Ron Realsmith said all five cars remained upright and CN staff are currently working on "remediation efforts."

In an email to Sarnia News Today, Realsmith said Sarnia Fire and Rescue attended and cleared the concern before midnight.

As the railcars remained upright and there were no spills, he said there was no concern for public safety.

CN responded to Sarnia News Today late Thursday afternoon and said the cause of the incident remains under investigation.
