Significant drug, firearms seizures among CBSA 2022 highlights

More than 870 kilograms of narcotics were seized at border crossings in the Southern Ontario Region, including the Blue Water Bridge, during the first 10 months of 2022.

The figure, from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Southern Ontario Region (SOR), includes the seizure of over 100 kilograms of cocaine at the Point Edward border crossing in June.

Stats from the agency, released Tuesday, said 208 firearms were seized from January 1 to October 31, 2022, along with nearly $1.2 million in undeclared currency and monetary instruments, a 57 per cent increase over the same period in 2021.

At the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel in June, border officials seized two prohibited handguns.

The CBSA said 116 individuals wanted on outstanding warrants were intercepted, over 100 individuals were arrested for impaired driving related offences, and over 1,200 individuals were refused entry for serious criminality.

CBSA SOR covers the southern portion of Ontario including the cities of Windsor, Sarnia, London, Fort Erie and Niagara Falls, and their surrounding communities.
