Councillor Ross O’Hara is being recognized with a provincial award for his over two decades of municipal service with the Town of Petrolia.
O'Hara was presented with the award earlier this week during a council meeting.
The award, issued by Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark, was presented by Mayor Brad Loosley and Chief Administrative Officer/Treasurer Rick Charlebois.
"I would like to thank [O'Hara] for his many years of service to the Town of Petrolia," said Loosley. "He has been a very important part of what makes Petrolia great! I look forward to working with him this term!”
The township said O'Hara served as a member of Petrolia council for 26 years.
He was first elected as a councillor in 1986 and later served as mayor for two terms. O'Hara took a break from municipal politics and rejoined council in 2015.
O'Hara will also serve as a current councillor when the Town of Petrolia marks its sesquicentennial in 2024.
