Canine unit tracks down fleeing suspect

A man was arrested by Lambton OPP Friday night, after allegedly fleeing the scene of a single-vehicle crash.

OPP were patrolling Lakeshore Road just after 8:30 p.m. for a suspect vehicle that had failed to stop for Anishinabek Police Service officers earlier that evening.

Police said the vehicle was located in a ditch near Mandaumin Road, and officers spotted an individual fleeing the scene on foot.

The accused was located a short time later with the help of the OPP West Region Canine Unit.

A 34-year-old South Huron man is charged with flight from peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a schedule one substance and failing to comply with a release order.

He was being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
