Police urge drivers to stay sober as holiday parties ramp up

If you plan on drinking or smoking pot at holiday parties this winter, Sarnia police want you to be safe and avoid getting behind the wheel.

Cst. John Sottosanti said there are plenty of alternatives available.

"You can take an Uber or a taxi or have a designated driver," said Sottosanti.

"Sarnia Transit usually offers free rides on New Years' Eve. The city has also offered free parking on city streets on New Years' Eve to make sure people don't drink and drive."

Sottosanti said officers have been out conducting RIDE programs.

"We're out there in the evening and daytime hours to ensure that people aren't drinking and driving," he said. "Unfortunately, we have located one individual that was impaired, and was charged accordingly."

Meanwhile, Lambton OPP officers recently arrested a driver near a RIDE checkpoint on Venetian Blvd. in Point Edward.
