Free Dental Day coming to Sarnia clinic

A Sarnia dental clinic is offering free services to those in need on Saturday.

Lambton Family Dental said those who are 14 and up without dental insurance will be eligible for a cleaning, filling, or extraction on February 11.

Owner Michael Rondinelli said it's the first time they've hosted the event.

"Obviously, times have changed in the economy right now and things are kind of tougher for a lot of people more than ever. We're seeing it in our practice everyday. So, we wanted to do something that would benefit the community and try to help some people out who are struggling right now," he said. "If we can add a little bit of positivity in someone's life and help somebody out who might be struggling a little bit, that's our goal right now and that's what we're dedicated to do."

Rondinelli said the goal is to service as many people in a short period of time.

"I would say that we'll probably be able to service anywhere between 150 to 200 people that day, comfortably," he said. "This is awesome for somebody who might be experiencing some discomfort but has been pushing it off because of the unforeseen costs that can sometimes arise at the dentist."

Rondinelli said it's going to be first come, first served, and that they'll start taking pre-registrations at 7:30 a.m. He said around 40 people will be working until 4 p.m.

"We'll probably have about six or seven dentists working, another six or seven hygienists, and then all the support staff with dental assistants, front desk administration, people just cleaning."

Rondinelli said they wanted to expand on their free sports guard day held each August, prior to the pandemic, which offered sports guards to basically any kids who needed one. He said they gave away 150 to 200 sports guards yearly for about six years.
