Petrolia packs Family Day weekend full of activities

The Town of Petrolia is kicking off a weekend full of free and low-cost Family Day activities.

Petrolia Family Fun Days will start with a free screening of Top Gun: Maverick at Victoria Hall at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Free sports activities will be offered on Saturday and Sunday at the Petrolia YMCA from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. An open gym will also be held those two days from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

A couple of free screenings at Victoria Hall will be held on Saturday. Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank will begin at 2 p.m. and The Lost City will start at 7 p.m.

The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 216, will host their monthly fundraising breakfast on Sunday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

A Family Safety Open House will also be held on Sunday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for families to see demonstrations. The event will cap off with a fundraising BBQ organized by the Petrolia Fire Association.

There will be free family skate opportunities at Greenwood Recreation Centre on Sunday from 1:50 p.m. until 2:50 p.m. Free Family Day skates on Monday will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Also on Family Day itself, New Life Assembly Church will hold a free breakfast between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Free swims will be held on Monday at the Petrolia YMCA from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. and again from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

The Lambton Central Petrolia Optimist Club will have bouncy castles set up at the YMCA's gymnasium from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. During that time, they'll also host a low-cost family BBQ from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The Petrolia Lion Hall will host a free bingo session on Family Day from 3:30 p.m. until 4 :30 p.m.

Although the township planned to hold its annual snow sculpture contest in February, Mother Nature has not cooperated.
