UPDATE: Dream Home winners opt for cash prize

Four co-workers who recently won Bluewater Health Foundation’s Dream Home Lottery are still a little shocked about winning the grand prize.

The winners of the 28th annual dream home lottery were announced over Facebook Live last week.

Stevan Vucak of Belle River was the ticket holder but he participated in the lottery with Sarnia-Lambton residents Morgan Plut, John Arcamone, and Brian Hough -- all of whom work together at St. Clair Energy Centre in Corunna.

Vucak said he was actually expecting a call from the groomer to pick up his dog when the hospital foundation called with the good news.

"The phone wasn't working right and they were trying to tell me that [we] won and everybody's laughing in the background," he said. "I honestly thought that it was guys from work messing around because we play pranks on each other all the time."

Vucak said the other three winners also thought it was a joke when he called to tell them the news, and even after seeing the results posted to Facebook, the group was still left in disbelief.

"It's crazy," Vucak said.

He said they have participated in the Dream Home lottery every year, for approximately 13 to 14 years.

After discussing their options, the group of four decided to take the $800,000 cash rather than the house, located in Bright's Grove.

Vucak said he plans to spend his share of the prize to pay off their mortgage and put the rest towards school for his three children.

The group is expected to pick up their winnings from the hospital foundation on Wednesday.

The winner of the hospital foundation's 50/50 draw also picked up her winnings this week. Alexandra Morrison of Sarnia won $284,370.
