Enbridge makes another donation to local fire department

Enbridge Gas has made another funding contribution to a local fire department to support training.

A cheque presentation was held at Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department on Thursday.

The fire department received $5,000 to purchase training materials.

"Our department is grateful for these funds, as we work to excel in our training exercises and outcomes for each member of our department," said Fire Chief Jay Arns in a statement. "Our team is proud to have the opportunity to train at such a prominent level, and that our expertise helps to maintain a safe community."

The same amount was donated to the Plympton-Wyoming Fire Department in early February.

The funding is part of a larger donation of $250,000 to be shared by 50 fire departments in Ontario through Safe Community Project Assist, a program between Enbridge Gas and the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC).

“Safe Community Project Assist improves access to training materials for fire departments,” said Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair of the FMPFSC Jon Pegg. “Firefighting can be dangerous and unpredictable, and these training materials positively contribute to the health and safety of firefighters and the broader community.”

Since the project launched in 2012, 294 grants have been given to Ontario fire departments for additional training.
