County council endorses drug and alcohol strategy

County councillors Wednesday adopted the Lambton Drug and Alcohol Strategy for 2022-2023.

The development of the strategy began in the fall of 2019, but was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It's described as a blueprint for community action to reduce the harms of drug and alcohol use.

“Substance use and the increasingly toxic unregulated drug supply present a critical and significant public health concern in Lambton County,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Karalyn Dueck in a news release. “This strategy is fit to suit local needs and will work on multiple levels including with individuals, local settings, and on key policies. It is a truly collaborative effort, and I would like to thank all the steering committee members and everyone who has contributed to the development of this strategy for their efforts.”

Lambton County Council directed staff to work collaboratively with community stakeholders to pursue the strategy's implementation.

A news conference is scheduled for Wednesday, April 12 to discuss the plan and outline next steps.
