Stolen vehicle investigation leaves two facing multiple charges

A vehicle that was reported stolen from the Sarnia area has been located by Lambton OPP, and their investigation also led to the discovery of several illicit drugs and weapons.

Police said a vehicle with mismatched license plates was spotted on Camlachie Road in Plympton-Wyoming on Tuesday, which prompted the Lambton OPP Community Street Crimes Unit and patrol officers to investigate.

It was determined that the same vehicle had been reported stolen from the Sarnia area earlier in April, according to police.

The two occupants inside the vehicle were arrested and taken into custody.

After a search of the vehicle and the occupants, police said an assortment of drugs was found including methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, fentanyl, oxycodone, and hydromorphone. Also discovered was a firearm with ammunition, several other weapons, and more stolen property, police allege.

As a result of the investigation, a 51-year-old from Chippewas of the Thames First Nation is facing multiple charges including possession of stolen property over $5,000, five counts of possessing a schedule 1 substance, two counts of possessing a prohibited device, and seven counts of possessing a firearm or ammunition while under a prohibition order.

The second suspect, a 30-year-old Chippewas of the Thames First Nation resident, is accused of possessing stolen property over $5,000, five counts of possessing a Schedule 1 substance, and two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon.

Both of the accused are to appear in court on Wednesday for a bail hearing.

Anyone with information regarding this event is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at  1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
