It's going to be a wet start to the 47th annual Bluewater Anglers Salmon Derby.
The event officially got underway at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
Spokesperson Daniel Harbaugh said there's over $45,000 in cash and merchandise prizes up for grabs.
"There's 100 individual prizes, most of it is donated," said Harbaugh. "The Village of Point Edward has been gracious enough to donate $5,000 for the largest salmon this year again."
He said funds raised from the family friendly event support the hatchery.
"There's family tickets, they're $60 each," he said. "It's two generations, so it can be parents and their children or grandchildren and grandkids, so if parents are busy with work, grandpa and grandma can take them out and also there's a lady's day boat and shore as well as kids boat and shore."
Harbaugh said there are three weigh stations this year in Sarnia, Port Franks and new this year, Anderson's Pro Bait on Pine Grove Road in Port Huron, Michigan.
Derby tickets must be purchased at least one day before participating in the event, which runs until Sunday, May 7.
Over 1,000 fish were entered in the annual derby last year.
