Sarnia Roadrunners honour late members with memorial run

Saturday should be a nice day to go for a run.

The Sarnia Roadrunners Club will hold a memorial event at Canatara Park.

Past President Doug Seville said a number of club members have passed away since their last reunion run in 2015.

"Herman Hulshof and I had been sharing some names and we decided to have another reunion run, but this time we would do it in memorial for those who had passed away," said Seville. "At the time that we talked, we had names of five or six people who had passed. We put out a feeler to the general community and a whole bunch of people have unfortunately left us. Over 30 people who have been part of the Sarnia running community over the past 50 years have crossed their last finish line, as we all will some day."

Seville said they had hoped to have another reunion in 2021, but it was unfortunately not possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event starts at the Terry Fox Loop at 8:30 a.m.

Participants can choose to run either 1 km, 3 km or 5 km.

Everyone is welcome to attend, and there's a $5 fee to take part.

Seville said they will be reading the names of the past members before the run gets underway, and they'll be meeting afterwards at Starbucks to share stories.
