Warwick mayor credits SLEP for attracting new business

The mayor of Warwick Township is applauding the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership (SLEP) for attracting a new business to the community.

BCFoods, a global supplier specializing in dehydrated vegetables, herbs, spices, fruits, FD (firm and dry) meats, custom blends, and seasonings, has opened a new 102,000 square-foot storage and distribution facility in Watford.

Mayor Todd Case said he is really pleased BCFoods has chosen Watford to set up its Canadian operations.

"There's going to be maybe 15 to 20 jobs to start from my understanding, and it can grow to quite a few more jobs after that as the company grows their business here in Watford," said Case.

He said SLEP did an excellent job putting them on the map.

"Letting this company be aware of the fact we had a building that was vacant that could work for what they needed to do. So a lot of the credit has to go to SLEP for what they did for us," Case said.

He said the facility, at Wall Street and Front Street, has had a few different occupants since it was vacated by Androck, a wire products manufacturer, in 2006.

"Here in Warwick we're all about growth. We really do want to grow our community and when you can bring 20-25 [eventual] jobs to your community, it's a big positive. You've got to remember, in a community of about 4,000 people, 20 jobs, that's a lot of jobs. So, we're looking for this company to grow. We welcome them here and look forward to the future," he said.

BCFoods said it is anticipating substantial growth in the coming years, and is aiming to provide Canadian customers with production and storage capabilities similar to those at their Illinois facility.

The company said the expansion will generate new jobs, including; production line workers, operations support staff, and quality control technicians.
