Robyn Gray and William Partridge of Lambton College are among six Indigenous students recently awarded the prestigious John Wesley Beaver Memorial Scholarship.
Each of the recipients received $10,000 to further their education.
Gray is a Lambton College office administration student from Aamjiwnaang First Nation and Partridge is a chemical engineering student from Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
“Being a voice for my community and having the ability to advocate is a key focus for me,” said Gray in a media release issued by Ontario Power Generation (OPG). “Using the proceeds of this scholarship to help continue my formal education will allow me to serve my community in a role aimed at streamlining processes to increase productivity in a variety of settings.”
OPG said the scholarship, established in 1995, was named after John Wesley Beaver, who was a fighter pilot during the Battle of Britain and chief of Alderville First Nation.
The Aamjiwnaang First Nation administration and council congratulated Gray and the other recipients over social media.
