Grand Bend beachgoers are being reminded to keep their booze off the beach, streets, and sidewalks when visiting the Lambton County community.
Over the weekend, Lambton OPP handed out more than 20 liquor licence-related charges, with many officers patrolling the area on foot and bikes.
Cst. Jamie Bydeley said legal places to consume alcohol are residences, licenced premises, or other private places.
"The Town of Grand Bend does not have licencing that allows individuals to carry or consume open liquor on sidewalks, beaches, streets or parking lots," said Bydeley. "Be responsible and consume alcohol in permitted areas only. All other areas will result in a charge."
Bydeley said penalties vary from $65 to $215 fines or even a court date, depending on the infraction.
"Some of the typical charges we see are being intoxicated in a public place, a $65 fine which typically includes a stay in our cells for the individual’s safety until they can care for themselves," he said. "Having liquor in open container in unauthorized place is a $125 fine, and having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor is a $215 fine."
