The Lambton Kent District School Board is planning to hold consultations throughout the month of June before design plans are finalized for the "super school" in Forest.
Superintendent of Business Operation Brian McKay said consultations have continuously taken place with the school community over the past several months.
"Consultation is important because it really gives everyone -- students, staff, and community members -- not only a look at the design and the design process but also a voice in how the school is put together, how the design comes together, and ultimately, how it will look," he said.
McKay said student consultation dates have yet to be finalized but the children will be able to voice their opinions directly to architects. A consultation with the transition committee will be held on June 14.
"[It'll be] one of the final times where the architects are bringing back the final design for the final review," he said. "Lots of consultations in June... the goal is that it'll be all wrapped up by the end of June."
McKay said it's "heartwarming" for the board to be at this phase.
"We're getting a lot of positive feedback," he said.
Once the final design is approved, the next step will involve a tender package being put together and released in the fall, a step McKay called "very exciting."
The Kindergarten to Grade 12 school will be built near the Shores Recreation Centre.
