It's the 23rd annual Relay for Life in Sarnia.
Committee Spokesperson Melissa Schilz said the event is being held on Saturday, June 10 at the Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park on Modeland Road from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m..
"So it's a little bit shorter than it has been in previous years," said Schilz. "Some people know it as the 12 hour event, but we really want to make it more accessible. We're going to have Zumba, a really fun way to kick off the event, we're going to have food trucks, there will be games, there will be a silent auction there. We have a first lap, the Participant of Hope Lap, it usually starts around 4:20 p.m. or 4:30 pm.
Schilz said the traditional Luminary Lap will be held before the closing ceremonies.
Face of Hope and Committee Spokesperson Christina Otten said money raised will help patients through their cancer journey.
"So locally we have a wig program so if you've undergone chemotherapy and have lost your hair, we offer wigs free of charge," said Otten. "As well we have Wheels of Hope, where individuals can get to and from appointments, whether that be locally in Sarnia or in London, absolutely free as well. And then the money also goes to cancer research to hopefully change the face of cancer."
Last year's event raised $60,000.
