OPP issue sextortion scam advisory

Lambton OPP is urging residents to never send pictures or images to someone encountered online after a recent sextortion scam involving a young adult.

The message was recently issued over social media after an incident was reported to police on June 5.

"Lambton OPP were recently notified of the #Sextortion scam after photos were sent and money was then demanded or the photos would be sent to the person's friends and family," read an OPP West Region tweet.

Provincial police said the incident involved a 20-year-old who was using Snapchat.

It's unknown how much money was demanded but police said it appears the victim did not comply.

Lambton OPP told Sarnia News Today that they see these situations happen fairly often throughout the year, and younger males are typically the victims.
