Literacy Lambton is aiming to give young kids practice and encouragement to love reading.
The organization's free Summer Reading Buddies program is back for another year.
Last year's inaugural program saw 29 'little buddy' readers paired with 11 'big buddy' volunteers.
Executive Director Tracy Pound said the half hour sessions are popular.
"To be able to spark a love of reading in a child, there's so much reward to that," said Pound. "We want to inspire kids to be in the habit of reading outside of school. We know that this really helps to improve their vocabulary and their ability to express themselves. It also gives them a big leg up on challenges that they might face during the school year."
The program starts July 4 and runs through August at the downtown Sarnia Public Library on Christina St. in Sarnia.
Little buddies are in grades one through six. Their parents can sign them up for the program by emailing admin@literacylambton.org
Those interested in becoming a 'big buddy' can apply online until Friday, June 23 at www.literacylambton.org/volunteer.
They're asked to commit to two hours per week, and must have a clear VSR police check.
An orientation session is scheduled for June 29.
