Sarnia FC is sparking a love of soccer in youth who may not otherwise get the opportunity to play the game.
The club has provided financial support to dozens of disadvantaged kids and Ukrainian refugees to allow them to compete in their leagues.
Sarnia FC Board Vice President Dale Mosley said their motto is 'soccer for all', and giving everyone equal access to the sport is critical toward further growing the game.
"There's a great social aspect to soccer as well," said Mosley. "People maybe come and move here and are able to make friends through playing. Children are able to make new friends and play the sport and be on a team. All of those great things come with playing soccer and sports in our community."
Mosley said the families that they help out are always extremely appreciative.
"A lot of people are happy to be able to play the sport," he said. "We also have players that are able to play through our competitive program. That's new this year where we've had that availability. We have our development program but we also have the competitive program. I know we've had a couple of people from Ukraine that wanted to go into our competitive program and they were able to do so this year. Of course, the development program is also a great place for them to come in, play the sport, and learn the sport. It's been really great all around."
Mosley said if people need it, they still have some equipment available that was previously donated by the community.
