Sarnia among ParticipACTION Challenge top 50

Sarnia residents were busy moving last month.

The city, for the second year in a row, was the fifth most active community in the province during the ParticipACTION Challenge in June.

Community Services Coordinator Rebecca Warren said nationally we placed 18th with 2.8 million activity minutes logged.

"So 477 community members tracked physical activity throughout the month of June," said Warren. "The Strangway Centre was about 500,000 of those minutes too, which is amazing."

The top 50 communities are now invited to submit a bid, outlining why they deserve to be named Canada's Most Active Community.

"There's over 300 communities that take part in this challenge in Ontario alone and we were holding strong at fifth in the province for most of the month," said Warren. "So, it's pretty incredible what this community has done in this challenge."

There are 13 prizes available, with the top prize in the country worth $100,000

Winners will be announced before the end of the month.

This was the second time the City of Sarnia participated in the national competition.
