A 40-year-old Sarnia man is facing charges after police located a replica handgun mounted under his steering wheel.
According to Police Chief Derek Davis, at around 10 a.m. Sunday, the suspect was pulled over for a traffic offence in the area of Wellington and Mitton Streets.
Police discovered that the suspect was suspended from driving and had expired plates. During a search of the vehicle, an officer located the accessible handgun, which was later determined to be a replica (airsoft). The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Davis said the accused is charged with weapons dangerous contrary to the criminal code, driving under suspension, and expired plates. A summons was still to be issued for potential additional charges, so the investigation was ongoing.
