Petrolia launches strategic plan survey

The Town of Petrolia is seeking feedback as staff develop a strategic plan for 2024-2028.

A short survey is available online for residents to provide feedback.

Residents can also use Video Ask to submit answers or pick up a physical copy of the survey at Town Hall.

Chief Administrative Officer and Treasurer Rick Charlebois said many of the questions are open-ended.

"For example, one of the questions is, what do you enjoy most about life in Petrolia? We just want to see what are some key things people like about our town. We hear from visitors but we don't hear that response from people in town," he said.

Charlebois expects the survey to be available until mid-September.

One of the themes likely to be included in the strategic plan will be associated with residential growth, as more families with young children are starting to move to the area.

"We envision that a lot of the growth that's planned to come over the next five, 10, 15 years will be exactly that group," Charlebois said. "The trend seems to be people leaving the big cities and coming to live in a smaller municipality, especially now with a lot more people  being able to telework (work remotely) either full-time or part-time, so it gives them more flexibility in terms of where they want to live."

Charlebois said it will be interesting to see results from this survey as the last one of this nature took place in 2016/2017.

He said they hope to have council approve the 2024-2028 strategic plan before the end of the year.
