St. Clair Township's Official Plan Amendment up for discussion

Two public meetings will be held this month to review St. Clair Township's draft Official Plan Amendment.

An open house is scheduled for Monday, November 6, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. A public meeting will also take place on November 20 at 6:10 p.m.

Both meetings will be held at the St. Clair Civic Centre, located on Emily Street in Mooretown.

Deputy Clerk and Coordinator of Planning Carlie McClemens said the open house will be an informal drop-in event.

"Our planning consulting firm is supposed to be there for the entire open house to answer any questions that anyone may have while reviewing some of our documentation and our draft Official Plan Amendment," she said. "Not only will we have our schedules and our mapping, but we'll also have text that we're proposing to change in our Official Plan."

Meanwhile, the public meeting on November 20 will include a formal presentation by the consulting firm, followed by a question and answer period.

McClemens said the township just recently received the draft plan so staff are currently reviewing documents and will make changes as needed.

A five-year review of the Official Plan was completed by the township, County of Lambton, and NPG Planning Solutions Inc. The plan amendment is intended to shape policies, goals, and land use designations until 2046.

The draft plan can be viewed on the township's website.

Residents can also review the "redline version" which details the removed and added text to the Official Plan Amendment.

McClemens said it's difficult to say how long the planning process will take as it depends on the feedback received by staff, council, and residents. It may be February 2024 until the Official Plan Amendment is approved.
