Toy Drive to be held at Lambton Mall

Sarnia's Salvation Army will hold its first Toy Drive at Lambton Mall this weekend.

Capt. Brad Webster said members will collect new, unwrapped toys for children and youth, near Toys "R" Us.

"The tough ages to always shop for are the ones we're looking for, teenagers up to 14 and children in the toddler [stage]," said Webster.

The Toy Drive will run from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday.

"On Saturday, we're going to have Sally Ann with us so if you want to come out and have a picture taken with Sally Ann, we will be offering candy canes at our table as well," said Webster. "If you have any questions about what we do in the community, this is the perfect opportunity to ask us."

Webster said toys collected will be included in the Christmas hampers they provide to families in need. Families who register for the program will receive a food box and a box of toys, depending on the age of their child or children.

"Teenagers 15 and over, to 17, we provide them with a Lambton Mall gift card," Webster said. "So we make sure that the family is fully encompassed and we take some of that worry off of them for the Christmas season both in food and toys - if it's a family."

Families can register for the Christmas Hamper program in person at the office on Confederation Street Tuesday through Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Registrants will need to show proof of address, an income statement, and identification for each person within the household.

The Christmas Hamper phone line is (519) 330-0594.
