It's hoped the annual Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign hits the $1 million mark by the end of the week.
To date, $980,000, or 70 per cent of the $1.4 million target has been raised.
"We're anticipating the NOVA corporate match any day now and that could bring us not only over the $1 million mark, but close to that 80 per cent mark, so there's a good chance we're going to be at or near 80 per cent by Friday," said Executive Director Dave Brown.
Since the launch of the annual fundraising effort in September, 1,920 people have made a contribution.
Brown said despite the challenging year this has been for just about everyone, the campaign has been ahead of last year's pace from the start.
"We are very, very pleased with the community's generosity in terms of helping us with our campaign," said Brown. "Inflation, high interest rates have affected all of us. And I think people are thinking about how much more it may be affecting those people with limited or low incomes."
The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton funds 17 local agencies providing over 31 programs and services.
