Sarnia-Lambton United Way makes a push for donations

The finish line is in sight for the Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign.

Executive Director Dave Brown said, so far, just under $1.26 million, or 90 per cent of the $1.4 million goal has been raised with just two weeks left to go.

"We received the ARLANEXO employee and retiree numbers as well as their corporation," said Brown. "And we got the finals from NOVA, from their employees and the corporate match. That's what brought us to the 90 per cent mark. We're still waiting on some final numbers from CF Industries, Cabot, Pembina and a couple others."

Brown said while the campaign target is set at $1.4 million, the actual need is closer to $1.6 million.

"We're really stressing to those folks who normally donate in December who haven't yet to please get out and do so," he said. "Typically the last week of the year, particularly the last two or three days, are known as big donation days all across North America to get that year end tax credit, so we're hoping we have another big year again this year."

Brown said he's still hopeful they'll reach their goal by the end of the year.

"We're still ahead of last year's pace but the gap has narrowed a little bit," said Brown. "But we're still feeling cautiously optimistic if we get those donors, who again traditionally donate in December who haven't yet."

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton funds 17 local agencies providing over 31 programs and services.
