Charmaine Crooks to 'inspire' at International Women's Day Luncheon

A five-time Olympian and president of the Canadian Soccer Association will be the keynote speaker at an upcoming event in Sarnia to celebrate International Women's Day.

The Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce's Women In Business Committee will host an International Women's Day Luncheon on March 7, 2024, from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the Best Western Guildwood Inn.

The keynote speaker, Charmaine Crooks, has a long list of accomplishments, which also include silver medalist in Athletics and entrepreneur.

Chamber of Commerce CEO Carrie McEachran said Crooks' resume is what makes her perfect to be the event's featured guest.

"The theme this year for International Women's Day is inspire and inclusion," McEachran said. "I think having [Crooks] come and speak to us is going to do all of that, we're going to be very inspired."

The all-ages event is open to anyone in the community and is not limited to chamber members.

Tickets are available online through the chamber's website or by emailing rcooke@slchambr.ca. Each registration costs $100.

Attendees who take a donation for Scotiabank's Period Poverty Campaign will be entered into a draw.

International Women's Day (celebrated on March 8) is a global initiative meant to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It also acts as a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
