The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has issued third quarter gaming revenue payments to sites across the province, including Point Edward and Sarnia.
The payments are for the period of October 1 to December 31, 2023.
The village was issued $440,493 for hosting the Starlight Casino.
So far, during OLG’s fiscal year (April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024), Point Edward has received $1,283,736. Since the gaming site opened in April 2000, Point Edward has been given $51,718,898.
The city was issued a payment of $108,201 for hosting Gateway Casinos Sarnia. Since the gaming site opened in May 1999, Sarnia has received $27,556,371.
The OLG said these payments to host communities are based on a formula consistently applied across all gaming sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site.
"OLG continues to provide Municipality Contribution Agreement payments to gaming host communities for vital programs and services that benefit all Ontarians,” said Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance. “Land-based casinos offer good, local jobs and play an important role in supporting strong, vibrant communities for families to live, work and play."
Since 2017, casino service providers have invested more than $2 billion in private sector capital across the province.
The OLG said these investments have led to the development and opening of seven new casinos, one planned development and numerous casino expansions and non-gaming amenities.
Since 1994, host communities have received more than $2 billion in non-tax gaming revenue.
