Polish up your singing voices. Sarnia Sings is holding auditions this week, and residents are encouraged to sign up.
Organizer Adam Dumond said anyone can apply to be part of the fifth annual event, as long as they can sing. He said around 60 people have expressed interest so far, and they'll be taking 15 to 20 for the show.
"We're looking for all ages, young kids up to however old," said Dumond. "One year, we had a lady who was 86-years-old so we'll take anybody who can sing. We have country, ballads, piano solos, and rock. All different genres are represented at the show."
Dumond said he was inspired for Sarnia Sings while on a trip.
"There was a real estate conference that I was at in Las Vegas where I actually stole the idea from the Tropicana Hotel," he said. "They had a live band on stage with a list of a few songs to sing with them. I had enough liquid courage to try it and it was a great experience. I just tried to duplicate that and give some of the singers in town the same rush of energy."
Auditions will take place on Tuesday, January 30 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Sunday, February 4 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the downtown Sarnia Library on Christina Street. You can visit Sarnia Sings on Facebook to register.
Proceeds from Sarnia Sings will support the Canadian Mental Health Association and St. Clair Child and Youth.
The event typically raises between $16,000 and $25,000. It takes place Saturday, April 20 at the Imperial Theatre and tickets will go on sale in a few weeks.
