Arrest made in 2023 Napier Street shooting

Sarnia police say an 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting last summer.

Shortly before 1 a.m. on August 28, 2023, a man was found on the steps of Sarnia police headquarters with gunshot wounds. Officers performed first aid on the man until paramedics arrived.

Police learned that the victim was shot at a home on Napier Street, with wounds in the neck, chest, and arm. The victim suffered permanent damage to the arm and throat.

A Canada-wide warrant was eventually issued for the suspect, who had left the area.

The suspect attempted to cross the border into the U.S. on Monday at the Huntington port-of-entry in British Columbia, and was arrested by CBSA agents. Sarnia police traveled to B.C. to bring the suspect back.

The suspect is in custody and charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, and possession of a dangerous weapon.

The charges have not been proven in court.
