Stolen jerseys recovered in time for flag football season

Youth flag football jerseys stolen over the weekend have been recovered.

Sarnia police said a package was stolen from the front porch of a residence in the area of Mackenzie Street North and Durand Street Saturday evening.

In a post to social media on Monday, Bluewater Flag Football League Owner and Executive Director Kate Brandon said the sealed package containing several jerseys including those representing the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans, and NFL Flag Footballs worth over $5,000 had been returned by Sarnia police.

"We extend our heartfelt thanks to the incredible Sarnia community and everyone who contributed to the search efforts," read the post. "A special shoutout to the dedicated Sarnia police and all the community members who assisted in the search. Your support and collaboration made all the difference!"

A total of 110 children participate in the Bluewater Flag Football league, whose Skills and Drills season began on Monday.

The 10 week regular season officially kicks off on April 22.
