Work underway on new BWH cancer clinic

Renovations at Bluewater Health boosted construction activity in Sarnia last month.

A $4.47 million permit was issued to ROA Studio out of Chatham for renovations to a portion of the Norman Street hospital's first and second floors.

Several existing suites will be relocated and unused space will be repurposed for redevelopment of the hospital's cancer clinic.

In March, NOVA Chemicals announced a $500,000 contribution to the project, putting the hospital over halfway toward its $3.7 million goal. The project will bring together Oncology, Pharmacy and the Laboratory in a network of services to provide a seamless patient experience.

It's hoped the multi-phase project will be completed next spring.

The monthly statistics also include a $150,000 permit for renovations at Eastland Plaza on Indian Road.

A total of 30 permits were issued in April for a monthly total of just over $6.5 million, bringing the year-to-date total to over $22.7 million.

One permit was issued for a single-family home, bringing the total to four so far this year.
