Lambton OPP has noticed a significant increase in seatbelt violations.
OPP said since the Victoria Day long weekend, there have been 229 passenger seatbelt violations in Lambton County alone.
That's up from just 35 issued during the same timeframe last year.
Fines for not wearing a seatbelt can range from $240 to $1,000 and two demerit points, if drivers or any of their passengers under 16-years-old are not wearing a seatbelt or secured in a proper car seat.
Unbuckled adult passengers can also be charged.
Ontario was the first province in Canada to pass a law requiring occupants of a vehicle to wear a seatbelt. It took effect on January 1, 1976.
