City of Sarnia ready for Canada Day fun

Thousands are expected to flock to Canatara and Centennial parks on Canada Day, as the City of Sarnia hosts one of its premiere events of the year.

The fun starts at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 1 with a handmade vendor market, International foods, concerts and kids activities at Canatara.

On stage entertainment will include Corbin the Magical, The Farmer’s Daughter Show and Kobbler Jay, and the Lambton Concert Band will be doing the opening ceremonies at the Bandshell.

Communications Manager Steve Henschel said Canatara will also be a good spot to watch the parade, which kicks off at 11:30 a.m.

"It starts at the corner of Lakeshore Road and Colborne Road," said Henschel. "The parade will make its way west on Lakeshore, then south on Christina Street North. It'll enter Canatara Park at Lake Chipican Drive, and finish on Sandy Lane."

Henschel said the festivities shift over to Centennial Park at 5:30 p.m.

There will be live music from 402 West, What She Said, Action Figures and Painkiller Jane, along with food vendors, face painting, interactive games, and buskers.

The main event is the fireworks over Sarnia Bay at 10 p.m.

Sarnia Transit will offer special free shuttle services to both Canatara Park and Centennial Park, allowing visitors to park off site.

Shuttles will run between Northgate Terminal and Canatara Park, every half hour, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

They will run between Northgate Terminal and Centennial Park, every half hour, from 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Henschel said they're making things easier for cyclists to access the parks as well.

"There are some temporary bike lanes that kind of enhance our active transportation routes, providing that as an option for transportation to get to both Canatara and Centennial parks," he said.
