Sting sign pair of import draft picks to OHL deals

Both of the Sarnia Sting's 2024 CHL import draft picks will be making their way to North America this year.

On Thursday, the club announced the signings of Russian forward Ruslan Karimov and Swedish defenceman Jack Bodin to OHL agreements.

The signings come a day after Beckham Edwards committed to the team.

The 17-year-old Karimov put up 15 goals and nine assists in 35 games played in Russia's junior hockey league last season.

Sting General Manager Dylan Seca said it's another exciting day for the organization.

“We are thrilled to announce the commitment from Ruslan to our hockey club," said Seca. "He’s a player we believe will have significant impact on our roster for next three seasons."

Bodin, 18, had six goals and six assists in 46 games played with the Orebro HK Junior team this past year, and was also the captain of Team Sweden at the U17 tournament.

Seca said Bodin will really solidify their D core for the next two seasons.

"He’s a leader, has lots of international experience and we believe his game will flourish on the smaller ice surface in North America," he said.

The Sting continue to prepare for Development Camp, coming up in late August.

The Sting's regular season is scheduled to start on Friday, September 27 when they host the Windsor Spitfires at Progressive Auto Sales Arena at 7:05 p.m.
