Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have released the results of the 'Operation Safe Driver' campaign that ran from July 7 to 14.
The campaign, in conjunction with the Ministry of Transportation, was aimed at improving road safety and reducing crashes involving commercial trucks and passenger vehicles.
They focused on promoting safe driving behaviors, like obeying speed limits and avoiding distracted, or impaired driving, as well as making sure all loads were secure.
Overall, 17 commercial motor vehicle charges were laid, six of which were for having improper documentation.
A total of 198 traffic-related motor vehicle charges were also laid.
OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique commented on the campaign.
"Aggressive and careless drivers have no place on our roads, especially when sharing the road involves large commercial vehicles," said Carrique. "Tragically, many families again this year are paying a devastating price - the senseless, preventable loss of their loved ones - because of drivers who make a conscious decision to not share our roads safely."
The OPP is reminding commercial vehicle operators about the importance of completing accurate pre-trip inspections, having the necessary documentation, being aware of weight and load restrictions, and ensuring regular maintenance and annual inspections are completed on their vehicles.
