Sarnia man charged in downtown robbery

A Sarnia man was arrested in a downtown robbery Friday evening.

Police said at around 6 p.m. on August 23, officers were called to a Christina Street business after a rock had been thrown through the front window.

Investigators said a 40- year-old man had attended the store despite being previously trespassed.

When asked to leave he allegedly began swearing, stole some products and ran outside.

Police said the store owners chased after the accused to try and retrieve their stolen property when the man violently resisted, and attempted to repeatedly strike them to escape.

He then broke free and ran to the other side of the street when it's alleged he picked up rocks and began throwing them at the store owners, shattering the front door.

Police said he also made threats to harm them and their business before taking off.

Officers were able to locate and arrest the accused who is now charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, mischief and failure to comply with a release order.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sarnia police at 519-344-8861 or Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-(TIPS) 8477.
