Rosedale Public School to undergo multi-million dollar transformation

Students returning to Rosedale Public School next week will notice some construction activity on site.

A large multi-million dollar renovation and revitalization project has started at the Indian Road building.

Lambton Kent District School Board Associate Director of Corporate Services Brian McKay, said the $23 million project was approved by the board in June, and work began last month.

A $16.4 million permit was issued for the project at Sarnia City Hall in July.

"Project highlights includes air-conditioning throughout the school, construction of a brand new STEAM lab, this will be a first of its kind in our elementary schools and that's an integrated science, technology, engineering, art and math lab," said McKay. "For energy efficiency, putting more insulation as well as better windows and doors and putting a new rooftop solar array on to help reduce some of our heating and cooling costs."

McKay said the project also includes changes to the parking lot flow and capacity, improved playground area and a new kindergarten playground space.

He said the project will be completed in a phased approach, and the elementary school will remain open.

"We'll be working at that school over the next, not only including the school year that we're just finishing the 2023-2024 school year, but we will be working on this project at the school over the next three school years."

There are about 440 students enrolled at Rosedale Public School.
