Construction forces week-long closure of Michigan Avenue

A portion of a busy road in Sarnia's north end will be closed to traffic this week.

Michigan Avenue will be shut down between Indian Road and Murphy Road from Monday, September 16 at 7 a.m. to Friday, September 20 at 5 p.m.

A notification from Sarnia-Lambton Alerts said this is to allow for site servicing operations at 939 Michigan Ave.

There will be detour routes on Murphy Road, Rosedale Avenue and Indian Road, with no through traffic permitted.

Residents have been told to plan alternate routes and obey detours and posted signage for the safety of workers.

Meanwhile, in a post to X, Northern Collegiate High School said it would remain open to students for the week.

They said buses will run as scheduled but access to the south parking lot off Michigan Avenue will be closed.

They're asking parents to respect bus loading zones along Indian Road, and keep them open to buses between the hours of  7:50 a.m. and 8:20 a.m., and 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Students are being encouraged to walk to school, if possible, to reduce traffic congestion.
