Former Sarnia basketball coach handed more charges for sex offences

A former Sarnia basketball coach is facing additional charges in connection to two separate historic sexual assault investigations.

The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) said it made arrangements with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for James (Jim) Matthew Miller, who now lives in Penticton, B.C. to be arrested on Friday.

In August, the RCMP arrested the 59- year-old after police received a complaint about the offences.

Police said the offences date back to the late 1980's and early 1990's.

Miller is now charged with seven counts of sexual interference, three counts of invitation to sexual touching and one count of sexual assault.

He was brought before Sarnia court, via virtual proceedings and was subsequently released with conditions in B.C.

Miller is a city councillor with the City of Penticton but is on mandatory leave. He is also a former Sarnia newspaper sports reporter.

The investigation is ongoing and Sarnia police would like to speak with anyone who may have additional information or may be a victim.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Cst. Andrew Veale with the SPS Criminal Investigations Division at 519-344-8861 extension 6231.
