Memorial hockey tournament honours Hayter family

The eighth annual Hayter Memorial Hockey tournament is taking place on Friday and Saturday at the Brooke Alvinston Inwood Community Complex.

Nine teams of firefighters, coming from as far away as New Jersey, will compete with funds raised going to Camp Bucko.

Camp Bucko is for young burn survivors of Ontario and this camp takes place every summer. It's run by volunteers, including firefighters and different members of the fire community.

The weekend begins with an opening ceremony and puck drop at 8 p.m. on Friday, and the games carry on through until Saturday evening.

There's also a silent auction and 50/50 draw.

Items up for bid include a Toronto Fire boat experience, Toronto Maple Leafs tickets, an inflatable kayak, electric guitar, and gaming keyboard.

The tournament acknowledges the legacy of Jim and Mary Louise Hayter, who were amazing community members, pillars of the town of Alvinston and area and who are greatly missed.

Admission is by donation to the Alvinston foodbank.
