Votes needed to win funds for Petrolia splash pad

The Kiwanis Club of Petrolia and area needs your vote to help win a cash prize for the new splash pad in the town.

Fundraising board member Melissa Duquette tells Sarnia News Today they've been selected as one of three finalists in the Growing Home with BASF contest.

"The top prize is $25,000, which we would really love to have," said Duquette. "It will help us to fund the community splash pad. Construction has started. It will be opening this summer at the YMCA in Petrolia, on the same grounds."

Online voting is open until April 15 at 11:59 p.m.

"There's one vote per email [address]. So, we need as many votes as possible," Duquette said. "The total project costs $150,000. We have about $30,000 of that paid so far, so this would really help us get a big jump on our goals for fundraising."

While an official opening date has yet to be announced, Duquette said they've been told construction should be completed by June.

Plans for the water feature on Tank Street have been in the works for a few years now. Designs were first shared with Petrolia council in November 2022.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the fundraising campaign can make donations on the Kiwanis Club's website or by contacting the club through its Facebook page.

In 2024, Three Oaks Cabin received just under 10,000 votes in the BASF contest and won the $25,000 prize.
