Registration is still open for what is expected to be an exciting event for youth in Petrolia this Saturday.
Final preparations are being done for the Youth Engagement Summit, or YES, at the YMCA.
Organizer Julianna Grant said the free event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tank Street site.
"We just want all of the youth to be saying YES to getting involved in their communities and getting to know other people," said Grant. "So, it's a really good networking opportunity."
Grant said they have a variety of activities planned, snacks and lunch will be provided, and they have some great guest speakers lined up.
"Our first speaker we have Mackenna Wright and she is really involved politically, but she actually began her journey quite differently from the way it is now," said Grant. "I'm really excited to hear her story and how she wants to encourage the youth to get engaged in their community just like she has."
Annianna Rowe, the vendors' and ambassador program coordinator for the Petrolia and Enniskillen Fall Fair, will also be speaking.
"She has a really inspirational story of overcoming challenges. She's really good at public speaking and teaching others. She has so many strengths and skills that she can share with these youth and tell them that they can do anything no matter what life throws at them," Grant said.
Youth between the ages of 12 and 18 are invited.
"We have tons of space for youth who are not in Petrolia, but our primary goal is to get the youth of Petrolia to want to come to our event and get engaged in their community," Grant said. "Our main goal is to get people to want to work in our community and to stay in Petrolia."
