Final mural in Petrolia encourages residents to shop local

Petrolia's third and final mural has been installed in its downtown.

The shop, dine, discover mural was installed on the east side of Total Hair and Body Care on Petrolia Line.

The mural showcases the message to shop local and was paid for by the Petrolia Business Association (PBA).

PBA Chairperson Denise Thibeault said it has always been important to her that people support Petrolia businesses.

"I have enjoyed working with our merchants for several years to accomplish the vitality that we see in our downtown and I am pleased to have so much support from the PBA Board and our merchants to continue doing so," she said.

The mural was hand-painted by Dresden resident Sarah Steele.

All of the murals were a part of the Downtown Revitalization project, which was funded by a Rural Economic Development Grant in 2023.

The first mural, "Greetings from Petrolia" was installed on the east wall facing Red Apple at the corner of King Street and Petrolia Line in spring 2024 and the second was installed in March on the south side of the Petrolia Home Hardware building downtown.

Petrolia's Director of Marketing, Arts and Communication Laurissa Ellsworth said the murals help create a destination for walking tours -- both historic and natural -- and provide points of interest throughout the downtown.

"I am pleased to see that we have accomplished the goals from that study and can continue to build on these experiences for both residents and visitors," she said.
