As the gardening season gets into full swing, residents can get rid of household hazardous materials, such as pesticides and aerosols, during an upcoming mobile drop-off event in Sarnia.
The County of Lambton Public Works department and Clean Harbors Canada Inc. will host the free Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) mobile collection event at Lambton College on Saturday, June 7, from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Vehicles can line up at Parking Lot 11, just off of London Road.
"Corrosive, toxic, reactive and flammable materials will be collected at the mobile event," said Public Works Manager Matt Deline. "These items should never be placed in a regular landfill because they have the potential to injure workers and damage the environment."
Acceptable materials to drop off include batteries, paints, bleach, and propane cylinders. Unacceptable items include commercial, industrial, agricultural, or radioactive wastes.
Those getting rid of lithium batteries are asked to separate them from other battery types for safety reasons.
More details about the program can be found on the county's website.
HHW collection events are typically held at Clean Harbors in St. Clair Township. The next drop-off event will be held on June 21.
Another mobile event will be held later this year at the county's Public Works Depot in Lambton Shores on October 4, from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
